Examples of two walking tours in Forssa:

Walking tour along the footsteps of the Master Machine Engraver in 1920’s and 1930’s

In Finland, textile printing was first started in Forssa. New and more developed technologies were also reaching Finland from Europe, especially from England. Towards the end of 1910’s, Finland had gained its independency from Russia and the society was undergoing many reforms.

One important new development in textile industry was brought to Forssa by a German craftsman, Ernst Lehmann, a well-respected machine engraver. What’s that? What kind of a place did he arrive at? Was Forssa a backward factory town – or something else? What’s remaining to date? You may be up to an interesting story…

Join us for a time travel in Forssa on the1920’s and 1930’s era. The tour is presented in collaboration with the Forssa Museum, their archive materials and photos.

Walking tour of red bricks, parks, and cement

This story begins from a time in Forssa when there were no electricity and amenities of life.

How did it happen that one of the most significant textile industry centers developed in Forssa? What did it mean for the community? Structural change in Finland from an agrarian to a more industrial society brought folks to cities and new jobs.

Focusing on the 1960’s and 1970’s, the societal development is well represented in Forssa by its buildings. From its early red brick textile factories and decorative wooden buildings to more modern times, Forssa offers great examples of functional architecture and cement block construction of apartment buildings – many different layers from various decades.

The parks – Forssa is one of a few cities in Finland with the status of the national city park. Dating back from over 150 years, Forssa has a beautiful central park along the river Loimijoki. There are over hundred park areas within the city creating a truly wonderful natural environment for all of us to enjoy.
